Community Food Event Report

May 22, 2021

2-4 PM

Thank you to Priya, Claire, Michelle, and Tina who were the coordinators of this event.

Grassroots Indy spearheaded a food distribution project with Gleaners and partnered with Patchwork Indy and Nora Neighborhood Ambassadors to create a community event located at Faith Church.

NCCC provided a band and kids games and vendors came out to provide neighbors with information about various services.

Vendors included

  • NCCC

  • Faith Church

  • Iglesia de Fe

  • FIEC

  • NNA and tenant association

  • Pajamas and Books

  • Helpings of Hope

  • Grassroots Indy

200 boxes were given out at the Faith church location and towards the end of the day, we drove over to Lakeside Pointe to distribute to contacts we had over there and to distribute at the main entrance to those driving in.

During the event, Bill Shewan and some others walked over to the apartment complex to alert people to the event.  Prior to the event, Eunpa and Joe Cluff walked the complex and prayed for meaningful times and interactions with residents.

It was great to have interactions with our neighbors within this type of setting and get to know people better. Also some volunteers came to walk around and interact and learn and got connected with some organizations they enjoyed learning about.

The kids games were a phenomenal success, thanks to Tina and Jon and the NCCC youth group kids who came to help them.

Several FIEC students came and enjoyed the event as well.

We learned that next time if we want a larger crowd, setting up on site at Lakeside Pointe might be a good idea, but the small crowd on Saturday also allowed for some meaningful interactions.
